Behind The Name "Sandlot"

The Sandlot? Isn't that a movie I watched as a kid?

Yes! But it goes further than that, as I'll talk about here.

Remember these guys?

If you are like me, you laughed until your stomach was in knots while watching this movie. The Sandlot found itself to be an instant classic, sports and family movie.
But for anyone who has not seen this film (and it slightly pains me to even say this), it's okay!

The good thing is that 22 years later this film (released in 1993) is still a classic movie that delves into the lives of a group of young kids who live and play baseball. Short of me giving you a synopsis of the film, I recommend you take a night to watch this film with family or friends. (Places like Wal-Mart will probably have this movie for no more than $5.00)

There are a lot of good lessons learned in this film, as the main character, Scotty Smalls (played by Tom Guiry) finds out the hard way. He learns a lot of lessons about life, friendship, and of course, baseball. He does a lot of growing up by the time the film is over (even into his adulthood), and baseball played a pivotal role in that.

It's these lessons plus lots more that I am eager to talk about for ATS (I'll be using this acronym a lot, it simply stands for At The Sandlot). So as you might have guessed, ATS finds its inspiration from this famous film.

Well there you have it! While ATS obviously comes from a baseball reference, I will however discuss other sports as well. Though I am an avid lover of the game of baseball, I regularly follow all the other major American sports and am also delving into other international sports.

Thanks for reading! Leave a comment and let me know what you think about The Sandlot. (Not simply about the blog, but the movie too!)
